Voltaire on the Jews
Voltaire wrote, "They are, all of them, born with raging fanaticism in their hearts, just as the Bretons and the Germans are born with blond hair" in his 1771 work, Lettres de Memmius à Cicéron (Letters of Memmius to Cicero). “I would not be in the least bit surprised if these people would not some day become deadly to the human race.”
As Voltaire surely knew, this is because their zeal, which is plentiful, is identical with their self-interest. The Torah must be true, because it flatters them: “You’re the apple of God’s eye. Just don’t look in the mirror.” They must be the most moral army, because they are the embodiment of God on earth, straight from Abraham and the Foreskins. And as Gentiles, we need to ask ourselves, where would we be without ethical monotheism and compound interest? We could never attain to such subtleties, we are just too crude and barbarous.
Elsewhere Voltaire wrote “You have surpassed all nations in impertinent fables, in bad conduct, and in barbarism. You deserve to be punished, for this is your destiny.” So whether it’s the founders of Catholicism, or Martin Luther, or Shakespeare, or even Voltaire, you will search in vain among the Europeans for a kind word about these strange people. We were nice to them in America, comparatively, and what did they do? Fifty-five years after World War II and they pull that 9/11 stunt. I’m surprised more people don’t bring it up, since were a month into this war and who knows where it could go.
