Hypothesis on Garcia’s laser gun tone

One of my favorite guitar tones, as far as I know it’s unique. I think the distinctive “laser gun” attack comes from putting a phaser before the envelope filter. Normally the envelope filter comes first. I tried it on a digital amp and it sounded good, but not as good as this.
