My favorite movies

My favorite film—I would call it the best film ever made—is Orson Welles’s version of The Trial, the novel by Kafka. Welles thought it was his best work, he was given complete control and changed the story considerably. It’s one of only two examples I know of where the film is better than the book, the other one being One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

My second-favorite film is Night of the Iguana, written by Tennessee Williams and directed by John Huston, starring Richard Burton. I prefer black-and-white for films, I think it’s less overwhelming and the subtler aspects come through better.
