The Anatomy of Melancholy, it’s actually Francis Bacon. It’s a book for book lovers, you don’t read it front to back, just crack it open at random and read a few pages. Herman Melville and Samuel Johnson were among its admirers. The Latin in the first sentence quoted below says “they think that they alone are worthy to be saved, and saluted as lords of the earth.”
